JOHANNESBURG, February 18: South Africa and Pakistan played to a rain-shortened draw in their first Cricket Test at the Wanderers today.

South Africa was 44 for no loss in its second innings with Gary Kirsten and Adam Bacher unbeaten on 20 runs apiece when the match was abandoned in the afternoon session.

Over 160 overs have been lost in the Test due to poor weather, and a combination of bad light and light rain reduced the last day8217;s play to 49 minutes.

South Africa began its second innings on the final day after the fourth day was abandoned without a ball bowled.

South Africa8217;s Pat Symcox and Pakistan8217;s Azhar Mahmood, who both scored centuries, shared the Man-of-the-Match Award.

Today8217;s play was delayed by 64 minutes when the floodlights were ruled too bright.

The International Cricket Council ICC recommended the use of floodlights in Test cricket to curtail hours lost due to bad light. But the floodlights at Wanderers have caused more problems than they8217;ve solved, with play suspended severaltimes despite the lights, or because they were too bright.

SCOREBOARD

South Africa 1st innings: 364
