CHANDIGARH, Sept 6: In an attempt to shore up its market share in the utility vehicles segment Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company Limited (Telco) has launched a stripped down version of the Sumo, priced around Rs 30,000 cheaper than the existing Sumo Model.

The standard version is priced at Rs 4.09 lakh and deluxe version at Rs 4.89 lakh. The Sumo SE version will be competitively priced at Rs 3.79 lakh. The stripped down version will have no air-conditioning, side step and wheel covers. These will be available as options at the dealers end, company officials said, including that the price cut pits the Sumo directly against Mahindra and Mahindra’s Marshal, which was eating into Telco Sumo’s market share. These vehicles are likely to be targeted in the semiurban and rural markets.
