The greed for a lavish lifestyle 8212; bikes, mobile phones, alcohol and what have you 8212; was enough reason for five teenagers to commit murder on Wednesday. Leticia Mendes 54 and her 18-month-old grandson were brutally done to death inside their IC Colony Borivali flat by these college-going boys.

Within 24 hours, the MHB Colony police succeeded in arresting the five teens who hail from well-to-do families. The accused who have confessed, say the police are in the age-group of 16-20 years. Police have recovered gold worth Rs 50,000, some imitation jewellery and a cellphone from their possession.

Two boys from the gang are students of Rizvi College, Bandra, and they belong to prosperous families one is a jeweller8217;s son and the other has a CEO as father.

Investigating Officer Prashant Bagade says the gang had been leading a 8216;8216;lavish8217;8217; lifestyle and that they all stay in adjoining areas. The arrests were made immediately after the police recorded the statement of the only surviving victim, Glenda Lobo the murdered child8217;s mother who is recuperating in hospital.
