The Tirunelveli Police have arrested a 16-year-old madarsa teacher and her teenaged lover in connection with the recent murder of a seven-year-old girl. The two reportedly murdered the girl, Murzeetha Banu of Melapalayam, as she had caught them in a compromising position.
DCP (law and order) K. Gopalakrishnan said today the teacher, who taught Quran at the madarsa, had planned and committed the murder on November 6 with the help of her lover, an unemployed 17-year-old youth.
On the day of the crime, the victim had come for Quran lessons after school.
The teacher, with the help of her accomplice, reportedly took the victim behind the madarsa.
There she hit Banu on the head with a wooden log and inflicted multiple cut injuries on the girl’s chest and back with a small knife. She also robbed the girl of her jewellery and left her there.
Later that night, three people heard Banu’s cries and found her struggling for life. They rushed her to a private hospital. The next morning, Banu was referred to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Police say the teacher has confessed to the crime.
