The police have arrested a software engineer for stealing source code and secret information of Brainvisa technologies, with which he showed that the production of Brainvisa was actually his company8217;s production. According to the company, it has led to a loss of around Rs 47.5 crore. The Shivajinagar court has sent the engineer to police custody till December 6.

The accused has been identified as Sameer Ashok Inamdar 36, a former employee with Brainviza, residing at Kubera Park. He was arrested by the Chatuhshrungi police on the basis of a complaint filed by Nitin Hemchandra Agrawal, owner of Brainviza technologies situated on Senapati Bapat Road.

The Chatuhshrungi police have registered a case against Inamdar under various sections of the Information Technology Act, Copy Right Act and other sections of the Indian Penal Code. The police arrested Inamdar on Saturday and produced him in the court on Sunday.

Brainvisa works in the field of end-to-end learning solutions and e-learning modules. Inamdar formerly used to work as vice president-marketing in Brainvisa and according to the internal laws of the company an employee resigning from the company has to hand over the source codes and other secret information back to the company.

Speaking on behalf of Agrawal8217;s company, advocate Vaishali Bhagwat said, 8220;He was asked to resign from the company in August, 2006 for misbehavior. After his resignation, he did not hand over the source code, instead he made a copy of the source code and misused the information for his own benefit. The fraud came to light when an employee of Brainviza surfed the website owned by Inamdar. He also noticed that the products of Brainviza were also being advertised on Inamdar8217;s website. So, the company registered a complaint with the police,8221;

According to the police, Inamdar resigned from the company in August, 2006 and after copying the source code and other secret information he started a company of his own. He used a lot of software designs and information from Brainviza. He also faked and showed that the products by Brainviza was of his company and started issuing advertisements on his company8217;s website. According to company officials, because of Inamdar8217;s actions, Brainviza had to face losses to the tune of Rs. 47 crore from August 2006 till November 2008. The company also has a sister concern named Brainvisa Inn Corporation based in New Jersey in US. Assistant Commissioner Prabakar Patil is investigating the case.
