Global IT services and consulting organisation, Tata Consultancy Services on Thursday formally launched its science-to-software training programme here. Addressing a press conference, S. Ramadorai, CEO and managing director, said the seven month intensive programme, 8216;TCS Ignite8217;,aims to transform 500 science graduates,who have been chosen after a rigorous four-stage selection process, into global software professionals.

The programme is designed to reach out to science graduates across the country and is intended to spread economic benefits of employment in the it industry to wider base of science graduates across india. The recruitment process for the pilot project spanned nine states, 25 cities and more than 125 colleges.

Ramadorai said nearly 60 per cent of the selected candidates are from non-metro cities and mostly first generation college graduates. More than 60 per cent of the 500 graduates are women. The CEO said the company plans to scale up the number to 2,000 graduates during the next year.8221;It is not only about personal transformation and professional growth, but also about social change,8221; he said.
