MUMBAI, AUG 9: It was an unusual sight that greeted one at the Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate, today. Players in all shapes and sizes doing their best to tackle the age factor and some of them were unrecognisable from their playing days. The atmosphere on the field, however, was friendly and that made the Mumbai Veterans Hockey Association’s Veterans hockey tournament a laughable and enjoyable one.

Tatas, with several Tata Electric players amongst their ranks, sounded a warning for their opponents when they thrashed a hapless Bank of India 6-0 after leading 2-0 at half-time in a Pool A encounter. BS Kuttappa (2), Nasir Khan, Gilbert Lobo, Clarence Lobo and CA Appanna were the goal-getters.

Mahindras, however, were not all that impressive and dropped a point to lowly Reserve Bank of India in a Pool B match. Anoop Shukla gave Mahindras the lead and Trevor Fernandes equalised for RBI.

In the other Pool A tussle, Mumbai Veterans Hockey Association XI defeated Railways 2-1. Ramesh Pillay and Merwyn Fernandes accounted for the winners and Ganesh Pillay reduced the margin.

In yet another game, Combined Banks defeated Mumbai Customs 3-1 after leading by a lone goal in the Pool B tie. Leo Dharmai (2) and Martinez Fernandes netted for the bankmen. Jaspal Sharma scored for Customs.
