VADODARA, Sept 10: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation will supply water to Tarsali village following reports that existing water resources had been contaminated by untreated sewage from the Tarsali Effluent Treatment Plant.
This was decided at the Standing Committee meeting held under the chairmanship of N V Patel on Thursday.
While the Committee approved a proposal to provide water to village, outside city limits, it also asked the administration to submit a proposal in the next meeting to take a policy decision to provide drainage connections outside city limits.
Several months ago, the General Board had taken a decision not giving drainage and water connections outside city limits as the VMC was having a tough time providing amenities within the 108 sq km limits.
Since Tarsali water has become unpotable, however, the administration has decided to consider it a special case. The VMC will supply 4,50,000 litre water after meters are installed on the sumps.
The request was put forward by the village sarpanch. Apart from footing the bill for pipelines, the Tarsali village panchayat will pay current water rates.
The VMC will also provide drainage connections in Rathodiawas, outside the city limits, in view of the fact that it would be included in the city limits if they were expanded in the future.
Garba Controversy: By allotting a Manjalpur garba ground to two parties at two separate times, the Committee set to rest a controversy that had risen lately.
Demand for the ground was put forward by groups led by Congress councillor Chinnam Gandhi and BJP councillor Pravin Patel. In view of the controversy, police protection was also sought in the VMC on Thursday morning.
Tax Zones: The Committee also gave a nod to a proposal dividing the city into four zones for property tax assessment. By turns in each ward the assessment will be done for four-year periods.
Demolition Drive: In a demolition drive on Thursday, the encroachment removal squad of the VMC razed unauthorised compound walls, rooms and iron pipes from Ellora Park. The operation took the guilty by surprise.
A staff of more than 50 people brought down unauthorised constructions of the Baroda Departments Store, Cash and Carry, Bharati Restaurant, Jagganath Puram, Nutan Maheshwar Society, Jai Ambe Society and iron sheds, staircases and parking porches.
The operation was jointly carried out by the Town Development department under the direct instructions of Deputy Municipal Commissioner Administration H S Patel and lasted more than seven hours.
The nature of violations ranged from flouting building bye-laws and constructing within the road margin.
