Talking tough

In her interesting speech she said that it is rather sad when an interviewer asked her questions, that read like a bio-data. “I don’t like such interviews, they make me uncomfortable,” she confesses. She feels that journalists should ask questions that are beyond the ordinary. Not cliche ones like “When did you start your career. How did you get into the acting line… etc.” She said that it was surprising that when she is on her tours abroad, the journalists there know much more about her than the ones here. Guess, the Fourth Estate here should brush up on its homework, huh?

Rohini Hattangadi, who started her acting career on the Marathi stage, sees many a discrepancy between the regional language theatre and English theatre. Sounding a little miffed, she opines that the Marathi theatre is suffering because it does not get rave reviews like the English plays. It receives a very step-motherly treatment when it comes to publicity.

Rohini quoted her husband Jayant Hattangadi, when she said that English plays were “third rate copies of fourth rate Broadway shows,” and hopes that something will be done about it. So here again she thinks that as a journalist when you are in Pune, Mumbai or anywhere else in Maharashtra, one should try and learn Marathi. And yes, at the function Rohini fervently requested the students that on entering the media world, they should refrain from writing gossip. “Films is not just gossip, it’s much more than that,” she says seriously. It remains to be seen if her advice will be accepted!
