With the popularity of Twenty20 cricket rising fast, star Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya forsees a grim future for the game8217;s one-day format.

8220;Cricket has changed all over world. For the public to watch this game we need for it to change. The one-day game will be phased down. The IPL is good for cricket and good for cricketers also,8221; Jayasuriya, who has made over 12,000 runs from 421 ODIs, said in an interview to a television news channel.

The left-hander also welcomed the introduction of the game8217;s shorter version to attract more spectators.

8220;Cricket has changed all over the world. For the public to watch this game we need to change it. You can now enjoy all that in around three hours,8221; the 39-year-old cricketer said.

Jayasuriya, who is the first cricketer to be appointed a goodwill ambassador for UNAIDS, also said he is committed to use his image to serve the society.

8220;Coming from Sri Lanka you need to do a lot of charity work and help in any way you can. People love cricket and they look to cricketers so as a team Sri Lanka also does a lot for charity. It8217;s a personal commitment,8221; he said.
