Swiss experts for German dept

VADODARA, May 10: Language experts from Switzerland will visit the German department of M S University to train teachers here, according to Massimo Baggi, First Secretary to the Swiss Embassy in Delhi. 8220;This will also help students gain greater exposure8221;, he added.

The exchange programme for students is not finalised, but the administration in both countries had not given up the idea, said Baggi. He also announced a grant of Rs two lakhs for the department8217;s library. Baggi was here to speak on, 8220;The Foreign Policy of a Small State in the Context of Globalisation.8221; In his speech he said that to meet the fresh economic and political challenges brought about by the fall of the Soviet union and the integration of Europe, his government had decided to act internally, at both the bilateral and global level.

Internally, a revitalization programme had been launched to promote competition in internal markets, to enhance the labour force8217;s qualifications, and to reduce government intervention and speed up administrative procedures by abolishing regulations.

Globally, Switzerland acted primarily within the WTO. He added that the growth of regional trading blocks offers both opportunities and risks for a country like Switzerland as it has opted to stay outside the European Union.

Later speaking about his experiences in the university he said that he had visited at least ten faculties here. This was one of the most happening8217; campuses that he had come across, he said, adding that he was amazed to see how students worked on sculptures as a part of their assignments.
