
Japanese two-wheeler major Suzuki today announced the launch of its operations in India and rolled out its first range of motorcycles for the Indian market.
The company launched two 125cc motorcycles 8212; Heat and Zeus 8212; which will be manufactured at its plant in Gurgaon. Suzuki Motorcycle India, the company8217;s Indian subsidiary, plans to produce and sell 100,000 units in 2006.
8216;8216;We are upbeat about our plans in India considering that the two-wheeler market here is growing at a steady pace. Our plan is to provide the consumers here with feature-packed bikes in the mass-market category before expanding to cover all other segments,8217;8217; said Suzuki Joint MD Katsumi Takata. This is Suzuki8217;s second stint at the Indian market after it severed ties with TVS motors in 1999-2000.
Suzuki, the largest manufacturer of two wheelers in the world, has already made an investment of Rs 200 crore and is likely to ramp up its production capacity as the demand picks up.
