
MAY 2: Municipal Commissioner Girish Gokhale on Friday has reinstated one of the three ward officers he suspended last year holding them responsible for illegal constructions in their respective wards.
Ward officer R-south S Subramanium was reinstated after a department inquiry report held that the one-year suspension was punishment enough. He was suspended allegedly for delaying the demolition of six illegal structures which had come up next to the ward office at Kandivli west.
Gokhale suspended Subramanium following several complaints of inaction against the owner of the illegal structures. After Gokhale passed on the complaints to the ward officer and take action. The structures were demolished but sources in the civic corporation revealed that there was some delay which angered Gokhale who ordered his suspension.
Subramanium on the other hand claimed that he had demolished the structures immediately after he received the order from the municipal commissioner. 8220;I received the order on March 20and the structures were demolished the same day,8221; he stated. However, he admitted that the enquiry officer was not satisfied with the arrangement he had made to carry out the demolitions such as arranging JCP machines.
Regarding the order which stated that the one-year suspension was enough, he said, 8220;The charge for not making enough arrangements is not a serious one and hence the order.8221; The order is likely to reach him on Monday.
Meanwhile, the departmental enquiry against the other two suspended ward officers 8211; Shah and M C Gandhi is still on. Gandhi has already retired from service. Last week Gokhale expressed disappointment with the police department for failing to take action against erring policemen while he has been strict with his ward officers.
