
SURAT, Jan 10: The city police have arrested three thugs who forced one Mahendra Prasad and his two friends to drink spurious liquor following which Vinod Gupta 30 and Umashanker 35 8212; both residents of Rangila Nagar 8212; died in the civil hospital on Saturday.
According to the police, Achhilal Kanojia, 25, Bhagwan Ram Mishra, 30 and Satiram Yadav. met Prasad, who runs a pan shop in Rameshwar Society of Rangila Nagar, near Tapti railway line, and asked him if he had money they can double it. Tempted by the offer, Prasad gave them Rs 5000. The trio promised him that they would return Rs 10,000 the following day.
However, the next day when they came to meet Prasad they told him they hadn8217;t brought the money with them and asked him if he drank liquor. Prasad8217;s two friends 8212; Umashankar and Vinod Gupta 8212; also joined him. As soon as they consumed liquor from a 175 ML Classic bottle, they fell unconscious. The police rushed them to the civil hospital, where Gupta and Umashankar were declared dead.
A police team led by police inspector Gulab Chaudhary swung into action and arrested Achhila Kanojia, Bhagwan Mishra and Sitaram Yadav, from their residences in Ashwin Kumar and Dharti Nagar, under section 328, 420 and 304 of the Indian Penal code. The police also claimed to have recovered Rs 5000 from Mishra.
