Contest held on communication
An open contest on communication and interaction skills, INTERSCAN8217; was held on Sunday at Samruddhi Hall. Organised by Learning Aid and sponsored by Godrej Agrovel Ltd and The Indian Express, the contest featured written tests like that conducted in competitive exams, like MBA, presentations, group discussions and personal interviews.

B S Yadav, manager-operation West Godrej Agrovel, professor Satendra Kumar of the South Gujarat University and Dr Biswajeet Pattanayak of Essar Steel Ltd were the judges. Of the three prizes, the first went to R Sivaprakash, the second was bagged by Sunil Banthia, while the third prize was given to Vishal Jain.

Open house
The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry will organise an open house meeting for residents of Katargam, Pandesara, Sachin and all the GIDCs of South Gujarat. GIDC Managing Director Ravi Saxena will redress people8217;s grievances and answer their questions. Those interested should give in writing their problems and queries within a week. Three copies of the questions are to be submitted at the Chamber8217;s office.

Teaching meet
A two-day workshop on Teaching Skills and Techniques and their Utility and Inevitability in Classroom Teaching8217; was organised on August 6 and 7 by the the Lions School, GIDC Ankleshwar. The workshop, aimed at introducing new teaching methods, skills and techniques in classrooms to fulfill the growing demands of students, was attended by 60 teachers of various schools of Ankleshwar. Experts from various colleges rendered their services as resource persons in the workshop, inaugurated by District Education Officer N V Palas. Among others, Amit Shah, principal of the Lions Club of the industrial area attended the workshop.

School magazine
The Chanderbala Modi Academy, Ankleshwar, brought out its fifth annual magazine Horizon8217; on the school8217;s annual day on February 20. The magazine presents, in a nutshell, all the academic and extra-curricular activities of the school, besides names of students winning various inter-school and intra-school contests. Professor B P Khandelwal, CBSE chairman was the chief guest on the occasion. School principal S K Bhattacharya, in his address, welcomed the dignitaries and briefed the gathering on the various activities of the school.

New committee
A committee, to be headed by retired IAS officer P V Swaminathan, has been set up to fix new rates of the Surat Electricity Company. The SEC was in the eye of a storm following an agitation against the company. Swaminathan is visiting Surat on August 21 and would meet representatives of various associations, District Collector R M Shah and other district officials at the collector8217;s office at 11 am. In the afternoon, Swaminathan will meet representatives of different organisations. Those who want to make representation should provide details to the collector before August 20.

Council meeting
The Surat Road Safety Council will meet on August 24 at 4.30 pm at the police commissioner8217;s office. According to a statement issued here by Council8217;s secretary, RTO K M Patel has asked all concerned officials to be present at the meeting.
