
Prizes for best lighting arrangement
Mayor Savitaben Sharda gave away prizes to three institutions and 10 individuals for the Best Lighting Arrangement8217; made last year, on the occasion of the country8217;s 50th year of independence. The Surat Municipal Corporation had organised the competition to mark the golden jubilee. The first prize was bagged by Sargam Complex, Centre Point won the second prize while Yatimkhana Orphanage was given the third prize at a function held in the standing committee room on Wednesday. Among others, Municipal Commissioner S Jagadeesan, Deputy Mayor Snehlataben Chauhan and Director of planning R D Desai were present on the occasion.
Thackersey meet
Thackersey is organising a workshop on August 16 to educate its retail traders about its new product. The company8217;s South Gujarat wholesale distributor Khusman Kapadia, in a statement, said it was for the first time that the company was organising such a workshop wherein new products will displayed. Company8217;s president F N Kanga will address the workshop.
The South Gujarat Productivity Council will train trade and industry workers for quality products. This was announced at a function held here today to launch the Council8217;s house journal Productivity Times.8217; While Mayor Savitaben Sharda praised the council8217;s efforts in her address, president of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry suggested that the council conduct technical courses for traders and industrialists.
Madresah fees
The Madresah Tayebiah School management has formally agreed to charge fees at the rate of Rs 155 per month as demanded by the parents, who have been on an indefinite fast for the past fortnight. The school, which was closed fearing attacks by parents, opened on Wednesday following an agreement between striking parents and the school management.
Rainfall
All talukas of the district, including the city, received moderate to heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours, the district flood control room stated. More rains accompanied with strong winds have been forecast for Thursday, a release issued by the flood control room said. The met office here said that the city received 8.4 mm of rainfall from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm today as the sky remained overcast with intermittent rains during the day. Valod taluka 45 mm received the most rainfall in the past 24 hours.
