
SUDA to set up vanraji8216;
The Surat Urban Development Authority SUDA, as part of its plan to make areas falling under its limits green, will set up a vanraji8216; over a 260-acre land of the South Gujarat University. This was decided at a meeting held with SUDA officials, presided over by SUDA chief Jagadeesan.
The body will take the help of Nature Club, an environmental group, students and the Social Forestry Department to achieve its objective, according to Circle Forest Conservator S C Pant.
A prayer meeting to mark late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi8217;s death anniversary was held on Thursday. The meeting, held by the Surat City Youth Congress and the Surat City-District Committee, was attended by a number of party workers along with leaders. City Congress president Thakore Naik, City Youth Congress president Ashok Pimple among others attended the meeting.
Mass marriage
A mass marriage of the Dakshin Gujarat Halpati Samaj Pragati Mandal will be held on Friday, according to a release issued by the Halpati Samaj. The function will be held at the Amroli High School at noon. Leaders of the samaj including president Babubhai Rathod, secretary Thakorebhai Rathod and others stated that although the government gave a sum of money to the newly weds, the Samaj would also contribute.
Fruits destroyed
Twenty kg of farsan8217; and rotten vegetables of Mathura Bhavan Sweet Mart and Tajmahal Hotel were destroyed by a team of SMC health officials, led by Central Zone Deputy Commissioner special Pradeepsinh Zhala in a raid conducted on Wednesday night. Officials also destroyed 20 kg of fruits from one J P Juice Centre. SMC officials collected Rs 3000 as administrative charges
.Special provision
VADODARA: The State government has made a special provision for the development of the socially and educationally backward populace in 71 districts of the State. Under the new provisions, the government will provide portable water, roads, health centres, schools and electricity to the people. Each taluka will receive a state grant of Rs 5 lakh.
Petrol seized
The District Supply Office seized 6177 litre petrol worth about Rs 1.6 lakh from Paras Service Station, Makarpura, following an inspection on Wednesday night.
