Cash awards for NIFT toppers
Students excelling in courses run by the National Institute of Fashion Technology, a branch of which opened in Surat recently, will be awarded cash prizes. Director of the Delhi NIFT S B Saptarshi announced that the student standing first will receive Rs 50,000, while those standing second and third will be given Rs 10,000 and Rs 7000 respectively. A number of officials of NIFT and others were present for the inauguration of a NIFT centre at the MTB Arts College premises.

Mushaira today
A number of noted poets and shaiyars will perform on Friday night at the Rajshri Hall, Navsari Bazaar, on the occasion of an All-India Mushaira organised to felicitate noted shaiyar Mukhlis Usmani. The programme will begin at 9.30 pm. Among those who will perform are Rahat Indori, Jafar Gorakhpuri, Zohar Kanpuri, Anjum Rehbar, Vikar Zafferey, Jameel Azhgar, Masumma Tabassum, Khaleel Dhanteji, Abbas Dana and Farooq Ishrat.

Congress memo
A delegation of city and district Congress leaders on Thursday met Additional Commissioner of Police H P Singh and handed over a memorandum expressing concern over the rising cases of serious crimes and alleging the police were high-handed. The delegation was led by city Congress chief Pratap Kantharia, GPCC vice-president Kadir Peerzada, corporator and general secretary Bhupendra Solanki and others. They also expressed their displeasure over the inability of the police to crack the Nita Satbhaya murder case.

Grishmotsav
The Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited has organised a summer festival, Grishmotsav8217;, at Saputara, the only hill station in South Gujarat, from May 28 to 30. To be held at the Saputara Auditorium over a period of three days, the festival will feature folk dances of all parts of India, an official release issued by the Dangs information department stated.
