Govt allots Rs 5 lakh for malaria
The state government has earmarked Rs 5 lakh for malaria control in Surat district. According to district development officer and district malaria control society president B N Joshi more than four lakh workers come to rural areas for sugarcane cutting during season. He said sugar factory owners should hold consultations with officers concerned and ensure that spread of malaria was checked. He said, while addressing a surveillance meeting on Tuesday, that even retired Malaria inspectors could be roped in for the project.
Water day
The Tapi division of Central Water Commission will celebrate Water Resources Day 8211; 19998242; by holding a function at its premises, opposite Kshetrapal Health Centre, Sagrampura, on Friday. Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional Engineering College Prof S N Suthar will preside over the function while former professor of Applied Mechanics Dr M D Desai will be the chief guest. They will speak on the theme Water: Vision-20508242;. There will be a cultural programme by children from Central school.
Appointed
The Western Railway has appointed South Gujarat Productivity Council president Rupin Patchigar as member of Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee ZRUCC. A former president of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry SGCCI, Patchigar is economic policy programme coordinator of the Gujarat Congress Pradesh Committee.
Arms banned
Additional district magistrate V D Asari has issued prohibitory orders banning carrying of arms upto May 4 in view of Tazia festival on April 27. The ban will remain in force for the entire district.
