Heavy vehicles banned
The police has issued a preliminary notification banning the passage of heavy vehicles from Nana Varachha village. Vehicles used by sand miners was causing congestion on the small road and also leading to accidents in residential areas. Deputy police commissioner West and Traffic I M Desai said objections, if any, should be sent within a month.
Takes charge
Govindbhai Gurjar has taken charge as sub-divisional manager of Gujarat State Forest Development Corporation8217;s Songadh branch. All traders, agents and concerned under the project will have to get in touch with him at his office in front of Prohibition Department8217;s office on the Surat-Dhulia Highway, Fort Songadh. He will be present at the old Vyara office on every Monday and Thursday.
Cong function
The Congress has organised a function to garland the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar near Man Darwaja on Ring Road on his birth anniversary on Tuesday. Congress city unit president Thakorbhai Naik will preside over the function. The city unit of the Janata Dal will also celebrate the occasion with the Dalit Sena.
Panel visit
An 18-member delegation of Chennai Municipal Corporation recently visited Surat to know first hand the details of the cleanliness drives undertaken by Surat Municipal Corporation. The delegation visited the Bhatar waste disposal plant and various ward offices. SMC8217;s deputy commissioner health and hospital Dr I C Patel apprised the delegation of solid waste management and various developmental schemes of the Surat civic body.
Appointed
Vadodara: Suryakumar K Karnetkar has been appointed organisational joint secretary of the Vadodara Youth Congress. Karnetkar has been associated with the Congress for the last 20 years.
