
Councillor for action against BJP
Congress councillor Bhupendra Solanki has demanded action against the BJP for violating the electoral code of conduct. In a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Balwant Singh, Solanki has said that despite the fact that the Bharuch parliamentary constituency, part of which falls under Surat district, is to go polls on November 25, BJP leaders in the SMC announced that Home Minister L K Advani would inaugurate the SMC8217;s indoor stadium on December 18, which amounted to violating the code.
Inauguration
The Surat Electricity Company8217;s Customer Service Centre, at its main office, Electricity House, Station Road, will be inaugurated by Mayor Savita Sharda on Monday at 4 pm, according to company chairman Dahyabhai Patel on Thursday.
Bus passes
Vadodara: Following the expiry of the State Transport passes issued for the blind on August 1, the Social Defence Wing of the government has made arrangements to renew the same at the office of the Blind Welfare Council at 47/A, Middle Class Society, Fatehgunj. Those seeking to renew their passes are requested to visit the BWC office between 10 am to 4 pm and carry with them the original and copy of the certificate of the civil surgeon, photocopies of the first and second pages of their ration card and all pages of the expired pass, besides two stamp-sized photographs.
Seminar
A seminar on Innovative Science Education Programme8217; based on the principles of Learning by Doing; Learning by Discovery and Learning from Environment will be organised jointly by the Faculty of Science, M S University, and Shishu Milap on November 7. The seminar, to be held at the Seminar Hall, Department of Biochemistry at 2 pm, will be presided over by the V-C.
Free camp
Members of the Vadodara branch of the Association of the Otolaryngologists of India and Indian Medical Association will hold a free camp for senior citizens8217; deafness assessment and provide them hearing aids, if required, on November 11. The camp, also marking the National Day for Deaf will be held at Bhailal Amin Hall, Salatwada from 9 am. Registration will be open for 250 patients on first-come-first-serve basis till November 7 and a nominal amount of Rs 100 will be charged for the hearing aid.
Art show
Art Underground, the city-based Digital Art Gallery, will organise a Digital Art Group Show Young at Art in the city on November 14 and 15 featuring the works of 101 children, based on Lord Ganesha, women, animals, birds, vision and environment. The works will be auctioned on November 15 at the Chandarva Hall, Welcomgroup Hotel, R C Dutt Road. Leading model from Mumbai Namrata Barua will initiate the auction with Bharat Mody, Member, Governing Council, VCARE.

Hiralal Bhavani, former vice dean and head of civil engineering department, Faculty of Technology and Engineering, M S University, has been nominated as the Man of the Year 1998 by the American Biographical Institute.
