Actress Priyanka Chopra has been summoned by the Andheri Metropolitan court on a recent case of cheating filed against her over failing to pay part of her earnings to a promotion agency.

A complaint was lodged with the magistrate against Priyanka, her father Dr A.K. Chopra and her former secretary Prakash Jaju last month. All three have been told to appear before the court on December 7.

The case was filed by Akshay Management Service. Chennai-based financier P.G. Shreekkanth, who is representing the firm, said, ‘‘Our firm had made a deal with Priyanka in February 2001 whereby the company would promote the actor who was then starting her acting career. In return, she would give (Akshay) 10 per cent of all her earnings including (receipts from) shows, films and advertisements.’’

Shreekkanth said the Chopras had made a payment of Rs 2.5 lakh but had stopped payments since 2002. Priyanka’s former secretary Jaju was initially a representative of the firm. The actress was first sent a notice in April 2002, asking her to pay Rs 11.6 lakh. But she allegedly failed to repeatedly make payments to the firm even after being sent a legal notice. On October 5, 2004, a complaint was filed against her before the magistrate.
