There is not a single issue in India that cannot be solved provided there is political will. Politicians must think of India first and petty politics last. The interest of the country has been and is being put aside to win power. What people want is peace, law and order. In addition people want non partisan job creation. I hope sanity will prevail.

Years of neglect

8226; Apropos of 8216;Modern India8217;s humiliated orphans8217; IE, August 14, for years, the Northeast has been neglected, its people have little say in the running of the country and have little government funds flowing in for their development. Either we treat them as equals or give them independence. Even our education system is flawed. The Northeast and its cultural and historic past is hardly ever mentioned. It is time we accepted them into the heart of Indian society. And illegal immigrants from Bangladesh must be punished, they cause a lot of trouble in the Northeast.

Feasting on death

8226; It was sad and shameful to see TV channels feasting on Dhananjoy Chatterjee8217;s hanging by showing each and every thing live and updating viewers. He was a killer and his hanging should not have been portrayed as some act of bravery. His punishment was rare. It must make people dread to think about committing such a heinous crime. By their coverage, the Indian media diluted the intensity of a serious situation.

8226; It was depressing to see joy over the hanging of Dhananjoy in the City of Joy. It was depressing to read about the euphoria of the hangman out to score a quarter century of kills! Let there be some solemnity in the death of a human being. The least the media can do is to avoid showing off the noose and rope trick.

Negative programme

8226; From the very beginning the UPA8217;s common minimum programme was to oust the BJP, its governors, its textbooks. They have no other interest. They are not fit to keep India together. The signs of disintegration are already visible: a lame duck PM; Lok Sabha was unmanageable; reservations for Muslims in AP; destruction of Hindu history; increased terrorism in JK; Punjab taking away the rights over water from its neighbours; prospect of the whole NE going up in flames. That list goes on.

Not even bronze

8226; Olympics 2004 just reminds me that in a country of 100 billion we rank among the last few countries. It makes me feel that either we should not participate in this big game or we should improve our sports infrastructure. We should not hope for even a bronze if this is not done.
