Summon slapped against Raj Thackeray

A local court has issued summon against Raj Thackeray for his remarks over Chatth festival.

A local court has issued summon against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for his remarks over Chatth festival leading to agitation in several parts of the country, including Bihar and Jharkhand.

He has been asked to appear before the court on April 22.

The court of Ist class judicial magistrate A K Tiwari issued the summon on Tuesday after examining witnesses Rajhans Tiwari, Sanjay Prasad and Niranjan Prasad (all lawyers).

Earlier, lawyer-cum-complainant Hameed Raza Khan had lodged a petition in the court of chief judicial magistrate, P K Moitra here against Thackeray for hurting the religious sentiment of a section of society.

In his petition, Khan had alleged that at a public meeting at Mumbai on January 31 this year, the MNS chief had described ‘chatth festival’ being observed by the people of Bihar in Mumbai as a ‘farce’.
