Sudden death for EME; loses by 9-10

IOB defeated EME by 10-9 through sudden death to reach the semi-finals of 38th S N Vohra8217;s All India Gurmeet Memorial Hockey Tournament being held at Sector 42 Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

Both the teams were locked at 4-4 after the final whistle. So the game was decided through sudden death and IOB showed great resilience to beat EME by 10-9. Earlier, Antar Singh opened the account for EME in the third minute. IOB equalised in the seventh minute through Senthil. Vinod Rayer put IOB in the lead through his strike in the eighth minute. D Felix further consolidated IOB8217;s position through his goal in the 27th minute. Vinod Rayer scored his second goal of the match to make it 4-1. However, EME made a great comeback by scoring three quick goals in 14 minutes to level the score.

Meanwhile, in the match, Air India drubbed Western Railways by 3-1 to reach the semis. Sandeep Singh scored for Air India in the 35th minute before Manish leveled the score in the 62nd minute. Just two minutes later, A B Cheenaya8217;s strike put Air India in the lead. Sivender scored the third goal for Air India in the 70th minute.
