PANAJI, NOV 29: Social and political recognition of a young language cannot be sustained unless sufficient infrastructure is concurrently built and developed for all round growth of the language. It is in this context that the last volume of the Konkani encyclopedia by the Goa University to be released on 30th November can be called a further step towards consolidating Konkani infrastructure as it covers Konkani expressions that are regional in nature.

The four volumes containing 4,000 pages in total, include approximately 5,000 entries with 800 illustrations in Devnagari script in alphabetical order.

The special features of the Konkani Encyclopedia, according to Dr Halarnkar are that it gives both scientific as well as the cultural-social aspects of the knowledge, which furnish the total and complete information on any particular subject. 8220;This helps to understand the subject thoroughly in context to all it8217;s dimensions8221; he said.

He further informed that, besides giving wide coverage to information from around the world, special emphasis has been given to subjects related to the Konkani world, its land, people, culture etc.
