Thousands of students from various schools and colleges of the city are getting ready to give a warm reception to the Youth Baton Relay, on the run up to the Commonwealth Youth Games CYG starting on October 12 at the Balewadi Sports Complex here.

Rehearsals are on in full swing, not only to welcome the relay team, but also to perform cultural events for the CYG show. The relay, flagged off from New Delhi on August 1, has already crossed around 200 cities in nine states and will reach Pune on October 6. On October 6-7, cultural events and street plays will be staged at various points on the roads to welcome the participants.

Thousands of children will be there to welcome the baton relay team that has a green theme and is spreading the 8216;Save the Tiger8217; campaign of the central government.

8220;At 3 pm on October 6, the relay will start from Bhakti Shakti Chowk in Nigdi and pass through Bhel chowk, Bijalinagar, Chapekar chowk, Pimpri overbridge, Morwadi Road and then head towards the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation office. It will end for the day at Telco guest house,8221; said assistant police inspector Arvind Gokule.

The next day, it will start at 7 am from the guest house and pass through Magar Stadium, Mhada Colony, Morwadi chowk, Mumbai Pune highway, Chinchwad railway flyover, Chapekar chowk, Walhekarwadi Phata, Dange chowk, Sai chowk, Shagun chowk and pass in front of the Hindustan Antiobiotics factory on the Mumbai-Pune highway. The team will then proceed to Nashik Phata, Kasarwadi, Phugewadi, Dapodi and Khadki.

Students all over the city are rehearsing every day to participate in the CYG. They are not competing in the events but will be cheering the participants of 71 countries. They will also stage various cultural events. Jigrr, the mascot of the Games, has been put up at schools where students are rehearsing.
