The Primary Teachers Training Institute PTTI students, who were remanded in judicial custody for attacking the convoy of School Education Minister Partha De at Bishnupur in Bankura, were released on Monday.
Pintu Parui, a PTTI students8217; representative, said the 11 students who had been picked up by the police for the attack were innocent. 8220;It was a peaceful demonstration and none of the students had participated in any kind of violence. The entire episode was staged to weaken our movement,8221; said Parui.
Parui also claimed that Left Front chairperson Biman Bose and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had promised to resolve the issue within 10 days.
The stalemate over the PTTI issue has already cast a shadow over the state of primary education in West Bengal and the students have already held rallies in Kolkata and Bishnupur.
8220;We will hold more rallies with the help of various political parties until the crisis is resolved,8221; said Parui.
The PTTI students have been protesting against the Calcutta High Court8217;s judgment that had declared the certificates issued by the 122 PTTIs in the state as invalid. The institutes had been functioning without the approval of the National Council of Teachers Education.
