PUNE, Aug 19: Close on the heels of the recent arrest of a student in the marksheet racket, the University of Pune UoP today announced that it had ordered the Government College of Engineering Pune, COEP to terminate the admission of an engineering student, and file a criminal complaint against him for submitting fake marksheets.

Prasad Prakash Tate, who was declared failed in the HSC examination of March 8217;98, gained admission to first-year engineering last academic year, by submitting a fake marksheet carrying 200 marks more than his original score, said an official press release of the UoP, today.

University officials, on suspecting the authenticity of the marksheet, repeatedly asked him to submit the original for verification, but Tate refused to do so, saying that the original was lost. When UoP officials contacted the State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations, and realised that the student had actually failed, they took the decision to cancel his eligibility and declared the marksheet he had submitted invalid.
