
Ahmedabad, June 14: Street Hawk motorcyclists are no more television serial monopoly. People in Gujarat will soon see them on highways in the state thanks to a Street Hawk Force highway motorcycle wing launched by Minister of State for Home Haren Pandya at a function in Nadiad on Sunday.
The wing has been started as part of the State Government8217;s comprehensive action plan to ensure that the law and order situation is maintained in 1999-2000. Dabhan Police Chowki on National Highway No 8 near Nadiad was also inaugurated.
The Street Hawk Force will be equipped with gasgun, walkie-talkie, helmet and cane. Speaking at the launch, Pandya said this force would enhance the police department8217;s ability to nab criminals and also make the force more competent.
Condemning Pakistan for promoting infiltrators in Kargil sector, Pandya said infiltrators had also tried to create havoc in border areas of Gujarat.
However, strict vigilance by the Border Security Force, police department and prompt action by the State Government had foiled their plans.
Pandya added that district authorities, BSF and the police department would have to take extra care in border districts to check any further activities by the infiltrators.Various police stations will be connected to this motorcycle wing so that immediate action can be taken in apprehending criminals.
Pandya also visited the Nadiad police station, which has been developed as model police station as part of the action plan, and checked the records maintained there. He also handed over complaint boxes which are to be kept at each police station.
Kheda district collector Bhagyesh Jha and Director General of Police C P Singh were also present at the function.
