NEW DELHI, NOV 22: The star billing at the Channel V awards last night came in the form of a kurta-pyjama-clad Sting who did a very Indian version of his hit single Fields of Gold with the help of latest pop talent Talvin Singh on the tabla and Delhi’s very own Shrad Shrivastav on the sitar.

It was history repeating itself some 10 years later for Sting was here at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to do duty as one of the stars at the Amnesty International concert. Then, he performed alongside rock legend Peter Gabriel, our very own L Shankar and even did a duet with Bruce “the Boss” Springsteen. The song was the police hit Every breath you take.

On Saturday, the song was the same, but the duet partner had changed. It was our choreographer Shiamak Davar. But somehow, the song lacked the feel and punch it is known for though the crowd was polite to clap and cheer the heroes it was more than evident to everyone that the sitar and tablas did not quite go with the tune.
