
AMBALA, April 12: The Ambala District Congress Rural Committee held a demonstration against the failure of the Central government to fulfill its promises. They demanded the setting up of a joint parliamentary committee to look into the corruption charges levelled by Mohan Guruswami and ex-Naval chief Vishnu Bhagwat. They submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner to be forwarded to President K.R. Narayanan.
The memorandum also voiced the Congress party8217;s concern over the Union government8217;s changing the nomenclature of the two public welfare schemes 8211; Jawahar Rozgar Yojana and Indira Awas Yojana 8211; and appealed for restoration of original names.
Among those who participated in the demonstration were the DCCR president, former minister Phool Chand Mullana, senior vice-president Ashok Jain DCC Urban, Ambala, DCCR spokesman Shasi Malhotra, former DCCU president A. K. Kalr, HPCC member S. K. Sharma, district Mahila Congress president Vijay Takkar, oppostition group leader in MC Dalip Chawla and DCC general secretaries Hiral Lal Yadav and Ashok Boondi.
Chandigarh: Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee HPCC today organised statewide demonstrations to highlight the failures of the BJP-led government at the centre and the allegations levelled by the ex-Naval chief against the Union Defence Minister George Fernandes.
At the district headquarters, the demonstrators demanded a joint parliamentary committee to probe the charges levelled by Bhagwat against the Defence Minister. The demonstrations were led by the district chief. Later, they submitted a memorandum to President K. R. Narayanan through the Deputy Commissioner, saying that the Vajpayee government had forfeited its moral and legal right to govern the country in the wake of damaging allegations levelled by high ranking officials.Under such disturbing conditions, the Congress party cannot remain a mute spectator, according to the memorandum. They also referred to the allegations levelled by Mohan Guruswamy, former advisor to the Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, against the ministers of Steel, Finance and Information and Broadcasting.
