
Two arrested for murder
PUNE: To avenge the murder of their relative, three youths from Loni Kalbhor village on Pune-Solapur road allegedly killed their 30-year-old neighbour Vasant Sadhu Bhale on Tuesday night.
Suresh Laxman Rakhpasare alias Kale 28 and his relatives Sukhadeo 27 and Nana 25 dragged Vasant out of his residence and hacked him to death with sharp weapons. They were arrested and charged with murder after Vasant8217;s wife, Leelabai, lodged a FIR against them. According to police, the accused suspected Bhale8217;s involvement in murdering Rakhpasare8217;s sister Shantabai Zende over a long drawn rivalry about six years back. Bhale had been arrested and charged with murder. But he was acquitted in the case a couple of months ago. However, Rakhpasare and his relatives still suspected that he was their relative8217;s killer.
Four held for disrupting PMC meet
PUNE: A few tense moments were witnessed in the Pune Municipal Corporation8217;s general body meeting on Wednesday evening when fourworkers of the Janiv Sanghatana tried to disrupt the meet, from the balcony, by throwing pamphlets condemning the civic body8217;s action against encroachment. The foursome 8212; Santosh Dnyanoba Ghodge, Sudhir Ransingh Thakur, Samir Ilahi Shaikh and Rafiq Sardarsingh Saudagar 8212; were immediately overpowered by PMC8217;s security guards and handed over to Deccan Gymkhana police.
Gujarat HC on environment
VADODARA: Gujarat High Court has suggested Gujarat Pollution Control Board GPCB to consider section 17-1-k of the Water Act, 1974 before allowing any industry to discharge effluent water into the Narmada and Amlakhadi in Bharuch district. Addressing a press conference here today the centre for environment, science and community CESCOM secretary Ashok Rathi said the High Court has directed the GPCB that as far as Amlakhadi is concerned that no new industry in the area would be allowed to discharge effluent water unless GPCB has developed norms in compliance of section 17-1-k of the Water Act.
Twokilled in hit-and-run case
PUNE: Two youths from Wagholi were killed on the spot when a jeep dashed against their motorbike on the Pune-Solapur highway on Wednesday morning. Loni Kalbhor police said Navnath Mahadeo Satav 20 and Manoj Vilas Patil 18 were riding near Loni Kand village when a jeep dashed against their two wheeler and sped away. The injured youths were shifted to the Sassoon Hospital by the police where they were proclaimed dead on arrival. The Loni Kalbhor police are searching for the jeep driver after filing a case against him. In a separate incident, Ramesh B Tambe 22 of Khed, an accident victim, succumbed to his injuries. Tambe was seriously injured after his motorbike skidded at Alandi Devachi village on October 23.
