
MUMBAI, NOV 12: The Maharashtra government on Friday began a helpline for cyclone-hit Orissa. The decision to start the helpline, which will function from Sachivalya Gymkhana, opposite Mantralaya, was taken at a meeting held on Thursday at the Sayadhri guest house. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Nitin Gadkari, cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, other ministers and other prominent citizens.
Deshmukh appealed to all sections of the society to strengthen the helpline in terms of kind namely in the form of essential commodities like food grains and infrastructural items. Reiterating the need to expedite despatch of aid both in terms of cash and kind, the chief minister said essential commodities like pulses, rice, jaggery, milk-powder, match boxes and candles are the immediate priorities enlisted by Orissa for taking up massive rehabilitation work.
During the meetingDeshmukh informed that Orissa government desires that the State Government adopt Jaisinghpur, the most ravaged district in the recent cylcone and start rehabilitation work there.
