
Despite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh8217;s assurance that all its concerns were addressed in the draft of the Indo-US nuclear deal, the CPIM today told the Prime Minister that they would like to study the draft before taking any stand on the issue.
At a meeting with CPIM General Secretary Prakash Karat and Politburo member Sitaram Yechury, Singh along with Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee and members of the key negotiating team explained that all their concerns, especially the nine points of objections they have raised have been taken care of.
Sources said the Government conveyed to the Left leaders that the draft text will be released next week. The Prime Minister and the team assured the Left leaders that the draft is in line with the assurances Singh gave to the Parliament and had properly addressed the issues raised by them.
National Security advisor M K Narayanan, Foreign Secretary Shiv Shanker Menon, head of the Atomic Energy Department Anil Kakodkar, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister T K A Nair were also present at the meeting.
