Stage set for much-awaited Kankaria Carnival

A senior officer of the Ahmedabad police in Zone VI, said: 8220;About 2,000 policemen from the main branch excluding the traffic cops will be present at the event throughout the week.8221;

In addition to the inspectors and commissioners, 250 commandos will be present at the spot. There will be 25 video cameras, which will monitor movement of the visitors.

The Ahmedabad police have also defined about 70 fix points of security around the lake. Policeguards will also stand on 30 roof points and 10 on the special watchtower.

When asked about the tight security at the carnival, police officers in Zone VI, said: 8220;This is a big project as lakhs of people are expected to come. And more than general public, the VIPs will be attending the function. So, the security is the need of the hour.8221;

The traffic police have been on its toes for the last one week to divert routes and make traffic flow easier near the Lake.

Nearly 1,500 traffic police personnel are expected to be pressed into service for the event.

A traffic police inspector said: 8220;The major traffic zones of the city near Maninagar have been put under control.8221;

He added that the traffic police have also appointed additional 50 personnel who will serve as 8216;tourist police8217; at the parking and the spot.

Special parking zones have been created near the lake to ensure an organised parking.
