
NEW DELHI, December 5: There was a time, more than two decades ago, when a St Stephen8217;s vs Hindu College final in the Delhi University inter-collegiate cricket tournament was eagerly looked forward to. It used to be a bitter battle for supremacy between the two colleges, situated across the road in the varsity campus.
After 19 long years, St Stephen8217;s won their title when they beat Khalsa College by 57 runs in the one-day final at the University grounds here.
Batting first, St Stephen8217;s made 244 for six in the stipulated 40 overs, thanks to fine contributions from Himachal Ranji player Sangram Singh 66, Sohail Dhand 69, skipper Sidharth Verma 30 and Salman Shah 26. They scored 99 runs in the final 10 overs. Sangram struck seven fours and three sixes while opener Dhand made his runs with the help of six fours off 88 deliveries.
Khalsa skipper Nitish Malik left-arm spin was the most successful bowler with two for 46.
Khalsa openers Vicky Dhir 37 and Varun Kumar put on 45 runs in four overs but medium pacers Sangram 3 for 25 and Sidharth 3 for 37 took charge and restrcited the team to 187 in 38.4 overs.
