PUNE, Feb 28: A draft of a memorandum of understanding between the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation PCMC and the small scale industrialists regarding shifting of industrial units from residential areas is to be finalised early next month.

The municipal corporation had proposed shifting of the industries located in residential areas at a 15-acre plot in the T-block of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. With a poor response from the industries, the project was almost on the verge of being scrapped.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Small Scale Industries Association, and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Small Industries Rehabilitation and Development committee, discussed various aspects of the project with municipal commissioner Ganesh Thakur. The meeting agreed to finalise a draft of memorandum of understanding on how the project should be completed at the earliest with mutual cooperation.

The corporation had earlier finalised a list of 439 industries and shift them to the proposed site. Each unit was to be given an area of 37.3 sq meters at the building, at a cost of Rs 3.3 lakh. However, only 40 industries submitted their applications and paid the initial fee of ten per cent of the total cost.
