
All the government primary schools in the district have been running three projects of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan simultaneously. These important projects are being run on regular basis and thus the class-wise syllabi to be taught to the students is being ignored.
The teachers teaching in these schools are a worried lot as regular studies, especially of senior classes is getting affected.
Said a group of teachers, 8220;The school starts at 8 a.m. It takes about half an hour for morning prayer and marking the attendance. Then, starts 8220;Padho Punjab8221;- the first project of SSA in collaboration with Pratham, an NGO. Under this, students are taught Punjabi and mathematics from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. After that, a 15-minute break is given to the students which is followed by 8216;Mid-day meals,8217; the second project of SSA. It takes about one hour to finish with this. And then starts the third project of SSA i.e. learning through radio. It starts at 12:05 and concludes at 12:35 p.m. It is followed by discussion between teacher and the students as what did they learn from that lesson. Afterwards, we have to write the feedback about radio learning programme. And the school gets over at 1:30 p.m.8221;
The teachers said that they were left with no time to teach students anything from the recommended syllabus. A teacher from the rural area school said, 8220;We feel that studies of class IV and V get affected maximum. We also brought it in the notice of District Education Officer Elementary.8221;
Amarjeet Kaur, District Education Officer Elementary, said, 8220;Teachers told me about this problem and in the meeting of October 10, we will bring it in the notice of higher authorities.8221;
Meanwhile, through Edusat Block Resourcepersons and Block Master Trainers are being made aware about different schemes of SSA. Today they were told about 8220;Padho Punjab,8221; an initiative of SSA with Pratham. This training through Edusat will continue till September 25.
