NAGPUR, April 11: Samajwadi Party8217;s state unit president Hussain Dalwai, MLC demanded that the Srikrishna Commission findings on post-Babri demolition riots in Mumbai be made public and those guilty be punished.
Dalwai was speaking at an quot;informal meetquot; programme organised by Nagpur Union of Working Journalists at Patrakar Bhavan. The state SP chief pointed out that the major opposition parties have already demanded that the Commission report should be presented to the legislature as per the provisions of Commission of Enquiries Act. Well, even the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Shiv Sena8217;s alliance partner, holds the same view.
It is only the Sena leadership that is reluctant to publication of the report. And because of the delay in placing the report before the legislature due to the Sena leader8217;s reluctance, the needle of suspicion points towards them. Even if top Sena leaders are involved, the government should not spare them, he demanded. To a question, he said there is no possibility of Chief MinisterManohar Joshi8217;s involvement in the riots.
Dalwai strongly opposed the introduction of Mayor-in-Council system in Mumbai. He dubbed it as the first step towards converting Mumbai into a quot;city-statequot; like Singapore and alleged that an influential lobby, which is interested in commercial exploitation of prime lands in central Mumbai, is behind the move, he alleged. Introduction of the Mayor-in-Council system would only serve the purpose of the powerful lobby and hit the Marathi speaking population of central Mumbai.
The Opposition parties have demanded that the government should not take hasty decisions on this issue and should refer the Bill to a Joint Select Committee of the state legislature where a detailed discussion could take place, he added.
