AGARTALA, DEC 3: South Zone were fighting with their back to the wall to avoid the follow-on. South were 207 for four in reply to North Zone’s 589 on the third day of the five-day Duleep Trophy match here on Friday.
Resuming at the overnight score of 551 for six, North managed to add only 38 runs today losing the remaining four wickets. North were powered by a record 381-run fifth wicket partnership between Virender Sehwag (274) and Rajiv Nayyar (118).
In reply, South suffered a setback when openers Nand Kishore and Ashish Kapoor returned to the pavilion with one run each.
However, Thilak Naidu (55) and JR Madangopal (84) stemmed the rot and put up a semblance of respectability to the score. South skipper Robin Singh (26) and Sridharan Sharath (36) remained unbeaten at the end of the day.
