MUMBAI, SEPT 19: Somaiya College of Arts and Science defeated Elphinstone College in extra time to win the DSO Inter-schools U-19 Division title at Indian Gymkhana yesterday. Somaiya won 48-45, after Elphinstone had made a huge four-point play in the dying stages of regular time to level scores 40-40.Somaiya, the favourites to win, started poorly with Umer Kazi missing three lay-ups. But some consistent work by Ralph Gomes gave them a 19-12 lead at half-time. The taller Elphinstone boys switched strategies, adopting a screen-and-roll gambit successfully. With 28 seconds left, Elphinstone trailed 36-40. Aijaz blundered with a foul on a three-point attempt. Rajnikant Acharya sunk two free throws. An offensive rebound of the third was then converted. Elphinstone had draw level.
