Rotary Club of Pune Riverside had organised a month long free workshop on electric repair for needy students at Sane Guruji High School, Sinhagad Road, Parvati. Students of standard eighth and ninth were given the opportunity to do a certificate course that would train them into becoming electricians and wiremen. Abhinav Abhiyantriki Schapatya Kendra conducted the course.
The Rotary Club of Pune Riverside has been organising a few such training courses to train needy students into becoming wiremen, plumbers, carpenter and masons. The courses are conducted so that children who cannot afford higher studies are trained, which will enable them to earn and work simultaneously.
Students who had successfully completed the course were awarded certificates by Baba Adhav who was the chief guest for the programme,Rohit Jerajani, president of Rotary Club of Pune Riverside, proposed the vote of thanks.
Free eye check-up
On May 16, Dyan-Deep Jankalyan Foundation and Rotary Club, Parvati, organised a free eye check-up programme at Dyan Deep Health Centre, Gultekdi. Around 210 patients were checked and 78 spectacles were distributed by Kamlabai Lodha. In the near future 18, cataract operations will be done for Rs. 101 only.
Carry on doctor
Dr. Vandana Kataria is back home to our own city after gaining honour and success in the field of medicine.
A graduate in MBBS from the renowned Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi and a post graduate from B.J. Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital, Pune, young and talented Vandana has successfully passed the MRCOG. Membership of Royal College of Obstetricians amp; Gynaecology in May 1999 at London, UK.
During her tenure in UK, Vandana worked with the world renowned doctor K.K. Chan at the prestigious Birmingham Women8217;s Hospital. She plans to continue her practice in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology in Pune.
Training camp for youngsters
Rotaract Club of Pune Central RCPC is organising a two-day leadership training camp for youngsters belonging to the age group of 16-25 years. The camp includes interactive sessions and workshops on topics such as team work and leadership, time management, personality development, developing self esteem and communication skills. The two-day overnight camp will be organised at Sangam on Alandi Road on May 29 and 30.

Diplomas awarded
On May 18, Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali8217;s Principal N.G. Naralkar Institute of Career Development and Research awarded diplomas to students of its autonomous course, quot;Diploma in Materials Managementquot;. According to Subhash Bhave, director, quot;This is the first autonomous course of the institute and will be followed by a few more in the new academic year.quot;
Around 87 per cent of the students had secured first class in the final examination. B.V Radkar awarded the diplomas. B.B Nimbhare delivered a speech on quot;Role in Materials Management in changing economic environmentquot;.
Cooler donated
Brotherhood, a voluntary organisation, donated a water cooler to Pune Railway Station, Reservation centre, on May 17. The cooler was donated by Mani Devi Mittal and family and inaugurated by A.K. Verma, Divisional Railway Manager. J.S Goel, president, Brotherhood and other members were present for the function.
