
Silver Jubilee celebrations
The Department of Geography, Modern College, Pune, will be celebrating it8217;s Silver Jubilee Year in the forthcoming academic year 1999-2000. For this occasion all past students of the department are requested to communicate with Dr P D Apte, Head of the department, Geography, by October 15, 1999.
Science Talent Search Competition
Rotary Club of Pune Metro has organised a Science Talent Search Competition through working models from various schools. The students will exhibit and explain the models under the subject SPACE8217;. There are about 70 entries. A few best models will be selected by the examiners through Indian Physics Teachers Association.
The exhibition will be kept open for all public on Sunday, September 26, at SNDT College, Karve Road, between 10 am and 6 pm. All are invited.The prize distribution will be after 6 pm at the hands of Dr V G Bhinde, former Vice Chancellor-Pune University.
Environmental seminar for teachers
The Y.M.C.A. Garland Craig Memorial School for the deaf and the W.W.F. Pune, organised a one day Environmental seminar for teachers of the special schools in Pune as part of its Teacher8217;s Day celebrations. Nearly 100 teachers from various schools participated in this programme, which was held at the Shanti Sunder Hall, YMCA, Quarter Gate. Vivek Aranha, Principal of Rosary High School, inaugurated the seminar. Classes on various subjects on the environment were taken by Prof. Ghanekar, Lata Shrikhande and Jaya Gadgil. Teachers actively participated in the nature game organised by Jaya Gadgil, P Kanagaraj, S Umbrani, and Deepak Londhe. Pravin Kanzee spoke on the occasion. General secretary, B.K.Roy welcomed the guests and Danita Daniel, director, W.W.F, gave away the vote of thanks.
Musical programme of gospels
Y-Music, a Christian Organisation involved in distributing gospel tapes and CDs had organised a special musical Programme of gospel songs featuring Remnant, Avinash Holkar, Earl Smokey James, Sunanda Sonavane and Pilgrims. They also announced the release of the following albums, which are now available in the market 8211; Acoustic Worship, Opening Windows, Simple Worship, 20 Christian Hits, Tribute to Rich Mullins, Wes King, 20 Contemporary Hits Vol I and Vol II.
Yoga camp
Iskcon Youth Forum IYF will be organising a two day yoga retreat camp for the next two successive weekends at the local ISKCON centre. The camp will provide an education and entertaining variety of activities including seminars with colour slides show, garden shloka recitation sessions, video shows, quizzes, skits, mantra meditation and spiritual chanting and dancing.The camp will be held on September 18 and 19 and September 25 and 26 at ISKCON, next to Dastur Boys8217; High School. The fees will be Rs 90 for students and Rs 200 for the employed, which includes residential facilities, food and course material.
Clubbing activities
Inner Wheel Club of Pune Central organised host of activities recently.They organised cataract operations for five senior inmates of Sandhya Home at Dr Kelkar8217;s hospital. A puppet workshop was organised for the cancer affected children at Inlaks Hospital by students of SNDT college. Teachers8217; Day was celebrated by the club at the Poona Blind School. The students demonstrated their music talent. Kavita Goel, president of the club, felicitated the teachers of the school with gifts. The club sponsored a library to a Marathi medium school at Hadapsar. Around 1200 students will benefit from this library which has reference books, educational games and story books. The club has donated some money towards Make a Wish foundation. Komal Bhatia, a poor girl suffering from renal failure at Sasoon hospital also received an aid of Rs 5000 and Rs 1000 was collected on Rose Day for Cancer Patients Association by Kumud Khara.
Festival of Choirs
The Poona Musicale is sponsoring the Festival of Choirs at the Bishop8217;s School new Hall on September 22 and 23. Around 20 schools are participating this year. The Poona Musicale choir will also be performing a special item on both days. Tickets are available at Oceanic and Spicer Shop, on M G Road.
Dedication ceremony
A dedication ceremony of Vineyard Workers Church8217;, located at Dapodi, opposite Shivneri Society, behind the railway station, will take place on September at 8.30 am, at the hands of Dr Paul Dhinakaran from Chennai. Many pastors and Christians from various churches in and around Pune are expected to be present. A blessing meeting will take place at 5.30 pm on the same day. A Sunday service will take place on September 26 at 9 am.
