Learning to meditate
At a talk organised by the International Society for Krsna Consciousness ISKON on May 6, Radheshyam Das spoke on Mind control, science of the soul, meditation techniques and different types of yoga8217;. Discourses on the Bhagwad Gita are held every Wednesday. SERA to Principal RobertsB W Roberts, principal of Bishop8217;s School was awarded the Service Excellence Recognition Award SERA for vocation excellence at a function held at Blue Diamond recently. The award, instituted by Rotary International, is given to an individual who has excelled in and contributed to his/her chosen vocation. Roberts has been in the field of education for more than 45 years and has been the principal of Bishop8217;s School for the last 25 years.

Aroon Sareen, president, Rotary Club of Pune Riverside presided over the function, while Nitin Desai presented the award. Rev Dr Wintell made the introductory speech. In his acceptance speech, Roberts spoke of the importance of family values along with a formal education and dedicated the award to his mother.

Holy fest
The Shri Matha Shri Sithala Devi annual festival is being celebrated from May 3 to 10 at Sachapir Street. The celebrations are marked by homam in the mornings and abhishekam, alankaram, archana, arathi and prasad distribution thrice daily. The Nathaswaram party of Thavil Vidwan Shri Kathirvelu from Tamil Nadu is in attendance on all days.

Enterprising camp
A six-week camp for Entrepreneurship Development has been organised by the Maharshtra Centre for Entrepreneurship Development in association with the Directorate of Industries and all State Industries Corporation, from May 16 to 30.

The programme aims at identifying 30 potential persons and imparting them with systematic features like assistance from government and infrastructural agencies, business opportunities guidance, information about latest emerging trends, market survey and research, project report presentations, etc.

Applicants have to be over 18 years of age, at least SSC passed, with English as a subject. Further details can be had from S M Joshi, district project officer, Agriculture College campus, Shivajinagar, phone 327724.

Free medical camp
The Punjabi Cultural Association PCA had organised a free medical camp on May 3 at the PCA Hall, Atur Sangtani Park. Dr O P Arora, Dr Swati Vedak, Dr Abhay Bhagwat, Dr Swati Kanitkar, Dr V K Madan, along with dental students of Bharati Vidyapeeth examined nearly 100 patients. Patients suffering from backaches were treated by S M Acharya who used the ATB Acharya Technique for Backache method. The next camp will be held on May 17 at the same venue.

For a good cause
A blood donation camp was recently organised by Phillips India Ltd, in association with Red Cross Blood Bank, at Loni-Kalbhor. Among the donors were many employees. A total of 131 units of blood was collected on the occasion.

Tales of devotion
The Pune Shahar Warkari Sampraday has organised a Shri Tulsi Ramayan Katha Mahotsav from May 2 to 11 at the Shivaji Maratha School grounds, Shukrawar Peth. The epic Ramayan is narrated by Kathakar Ramravji Maharaj Dhok of Nagpur between 8.30 pm and 11.30 pm. On the first day, that is on May 2, there was the Granthpuja and the Granthmahatmya. Today, the Shabri Katha will be related. On the final day of the Mahotsav, Ravanvadh and Shri Ram Rajyabishek will be related.
