Flavour Of The Day

Former prime minister Chandra Shekhar is in the habit of striking a conciliatory note whenever controversies arise in Lok Sabha, but on Wednesday there were no takers for his suggestion. The Opposition was demanding a debate on the charges levelled by former consultant to the Finance Ministry Mohan Guruswamy against Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha when Shekhar felt that discussions on corruption don8217;t yield any results. He suggested that instead of debating the issue in the House, a committee of senior members could be constituted to probe into the charges. Unfortunately for him, the idea was not received well. While the Congress spurned it, his one-time shishya former prime minister H D Deve Gowda too chose to differ. A bag wondered if his suggestion had something to do with his association with another long-time shishya Yashwant Sinha who has been put in the dock by Guruswamy.

Quip Of The Day
