Slapgate, hockey sting-op to feature in Parliament

From the sting-op that derailed the IHF to the IPL slapgate, all the pathos of Indian sports will be heard in Parl.

Several controversies in the sports field, including the sting operation that rocked the beleaguered hockey federation, cheerleaders in the IPL and Harbhajan Singh’s slap to Sreesanth are expected to figure in a discussion in Lok Sabha next week.

The House is to take up a discussion on the sports scene in the country when it meets after a four-day break. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the House which also decided to have a debate on the controversial creamy layer issue.

The issue has divided the ruling alliance with DMK, RJD, PMK demanding a fair review of the status of creamy layer in the wake of Supreme Court verdict.

The apex court has given a go ahead to the government to implement the 27 per cent reservation in elite educational institutions excluding creamy layer.

The House will also take up discussion on some of the Bills, including one on the unorganised sector and national waterways.
