SJM against FDI in insurance sector

NEW DELHI, NOV 25: The Swadeshi Jagran Manch SJM, the economic arm of the RSS, has decided to stage a dharna in front of Parliament on December 3, in protest against the BJP-led Government8217;s decision to allow Foreign Direct Investment FDI in the insurance sector.

The SJM decision could not have come at a worse time for the beleaguered Vajpayee Government. The Left parties have already served notice on the issue. So has the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, the trade union wing of the RSS. And then there are the reports that Vajpayee8217;s reign as the country8217;s PM could be in jeopardy, if reports of BJP8217;s debacle in the Assembly elections for Rajasthan and Delhi are anything to go by.

In a letter written on November 23, SJM co-convenor S Gurumurthy urged PM Vajpayee 8220;to reconsider the entire issue in light of developments that are taking place all over the world in the financial and services sector, adding, 8220;The most advisable course at present,8221; he pointed out, 8220;is not to open up the insurance sector.8221;
