Six children will split fortune: Murdoch

News Corp Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch has said his financial assets will be divided equally among his six children after he dies. But in an interview on 8216;8216;The Charlie Rose Show8217;8217; aired last Thursday, Murdoch said if he died tomorrow, his four elder children would decide who among them would control the family trust8217;s 30 per cent control of the media conglomerate.

8216;8216;If I go under a bus tomorrow, it will be the four of them that will have to decide which of the ones should lead them,8217;8217; Murdoch told Rose.

Murdoch has had four children from two prior marriages8212;Prudence, James, Lachlan and Elisabeth8212;and two children in the past five years with his third wife, Wendi. Rose asked Murdoch to clarify his position. 8216;8216;If something happens to you,8217;8217; he asked, 8216;8216;if you8217;re run over by a bus when you leave this studio, the four kids have to decide who will be the heir apparent?8217;8217;

Murdoch responded: 8216;8216;In terms of power, yes. In terms of leadership, they8217;ll all get treated equally financially.8217;8217; News Corp owns media properties including 20th Century Fox film studios and online teen hangout MySpace.com.

Lachlan Murdoch, who served as News Corp8217;s deputy chief operating officer and was considered Rupert8217;s heir apparent, quit last year. James Murdoch is chief executive of BSkyB Plc, Britain8217;s top pay-TV operator, which is 38 owned by News Corp.
