Kasargod, July 11: Six school-children were electrocuted as they came into contact with live electrical wires, at Kallur, about 12 kms from Manjeswaram in the district here.
The tragic incident took place at 4.30 on Monday evening when the children, aged between six-eight, studying in the Bhajanakariya Vidhabodhini LP School, were returning home after classes.
It was raining heavily and the live electrical lines snapped as a giant tree fell on the lines. According to the local people, the children were killed on the spot although the power-lines were switched off a few minutes later.
Abdul Muthaleef 6, Abdul Salam 6, Hassan Sakeer 7, Mariyammath Fousiya 6, all studying in Standard II of the school, Thoufila 8 of Standard III and Asma 6 of Standard I were those killed.
Meanwhile, the state government has constituted a committee comprising district collector, the chief electrical inspector and a KSEB distribution member to inquire into the tragedy. A Board Member has already been directed to visit the place where the incident occurred.
Chief Minister E K Nayanar and Education Minister P J Joseph have condoled the tragic death of the six children.
MONSOON TOLL 55: The monsoon toll in the State so far has gone p to 55. Five people, including a woman, died on Sunday in rain-related incidents, an official statement said.
